Designers & Consciousness.

The climate changes and global warming are the hot topic. Everyone in the world is trying to prevent our Earth from melting down including us, the designers. Through endless browsing the net, this are some the article that I found is quiet interesting for our common knowledge.

The Plan B: Noah’s ark of seeds
The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is now officially open as of last week, after nearly thirty years of planning. The facility is not only a storage space for seeds from all over the world, it’s a gorgeous structure to boot, built in the permafrost of a mountain on Spitsbergen Island in the Arctic Island Svalbard, that is part of Norway. The Global Seed Vault has been designed to store duplicates of seeds from seed collections from around the globe and from nearly every variety of food crop on the planet, such as wheat, rice or maize. So in the event of global catastrophe, we’ll be agriculturally prepared!

The Big Ask
The Big Ask unites Friends of the Earth groups across Europe in a call for governments to commit to binding annual targets for cutting emissions. Around Europe people are asking their politicians to take responsibility for tackling dangerous climate change. The launch of the campaign this week, involved endorsement from Radiohead's Thom Yorke.

From this article it makes me aware of how human have to be quick to make decision about the Global Warming issue. This lead to the topic of my design research proposal which is about sustainable design or green design. I chose this topic because I think we, designers, have a big role in communicating with people and gives them some example about saving the world. Below are some of the agency that going green:

One of a communication design agency that commits to high quality design, humour, fresh ways to communicate, and innovative use of materials (sustainable materials). They believes in two things: good design and sustainability.
This is how thomas.matthews fight for climate change:
1. re-thinking 6. designing to last
2. re-using 7. staying local, buying ethical
3. using friendly materials 8. supporting what we believe
4. saving energy 9. inspiring, having fun
5. sharing new ideas 10. saving money
